Caroline Burt of #CatholicTwitter has begun the St. John Vianney Novena, for a special intention of a priest, and for all priests. Let us please join her in praying for our priests!
It is so important to pray for our priests, and to offer prayers and penance for them. Satan attacks the priest because he knows that the priesthood is what enables us to receive Christ in and through the sacraments. Without the priesthood we do not have the sacraments. We cannot receive the Precious Body and Blood of Christ without the priest, and without the priesthood there is no Church. It is by the power of the ministerial priesthood that we enter into the pascal mystery by the Eucharistic sacrifice, and are able to become perfectly united to God.
"The whole purpose of the sacred liturgy is to offer humanity, through the priesthood of Jesus Christ, entrance into the inner communion of love of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus is the gate, the portal, through the mediation of the effects of the Pascal mystery, which purifies and illuminates us, that we can attain to this perfect unity with God." (Fr.
